The local Frys Electronics is sells Hitachi 160GB ATA drives for $40
$99.99- $60 rebate= $39.99
Should I go for the Hitachi or wait for a Seagate or Western Digital?

I like the Hitachi. I'm using a couple Hitachi drives in my machines.
One's in a Linux box as a secondary drive and the other is the fourth
hard drive in a WinXP box.

What convinced you they don't have the problems IBM drives did?

You dont see the same obscene failure rate that
was seen with the 75GXPs and the 60GXPs.

IBM just didnt have the balls to fess up to the problem with those.

I avoid them anyway for other reasons, I care about very quiet
drives now they are available so I dont buy normal drives anymore.
