Hit counter for virgin site

I have a website up and running using dreamweaver 8. The site is affiliatedly sponsored at my discretion and i have complete control. What i am looking for is a hit counter that is free from embedded links so that it is what i want it to be...a unique html or xhtml or whatever code for my site. Does such a thing exist ??

Do you want people to be able to see the number of visitors on a basic stats counter (like this : http://www.easycounter.com/FreeCounter3.html)

Or did you mean that you want a stats package to work in the background, with nothing visible on the site? If you want this option, google do an excellent free bit of software at http://www.google.com/analytics/ - just paste the HTML code on each page you want tracked (invisible) and it will show you loads of pretty graphs
