Up until about 3 days ago, I had no problem clicking
on "clear history" and it being cleared. Now, I can
click on it til the cows come home and everything in
history stays put until I manually remove each one. No
settings have been changed. Absolutely no changes have
been made on this computer. I've searched for a way to
correct this, but no luck. Help??

Go to www.securitysoftware.cc and download the freeware software called
WipeOut. This will not only clear your history but also your temporary
internet files, temp files and a host of others. It will even overwrite free
space for extra security. Please note that overwriting free space can take
many hours depending upon the amount of free space available so click
theadvanced tab and remove the check mark from wipe free space. Only use
this option when you need to and set the number of times random data is
written to 2 instead of the default 16. You will find this option right at
the bottom of the advanced tab window.

I thank you for your response, but this is not what I am
looking for. I need to know why, if possible, my clear
history feature does not work any more. Also, the url
leads to a site that doesn't exist anymore.

Linda;
Have a look here:
Problem Clearing Internet Explorer's History Data
http://www.purgeie.com/lockhist.htm
You need to be aware that you are not the only one with this problem.
Scroll down past all the ads. There is a list of a number of programs that can
interfere with clear history.

Thanks for that info Wes. Obviously Security Software have not paid the
subscription for the domain name. Still as an alternative try
www.majorgeeks.com There is a list on the left. Click on Disk Cleaners. You
will find WipeOut in that list. You can download it from there. I tried
downloading it from this site (using the Planet Mirror download site option)
and it download ok.

John;
Found it at MajorGeeks under Drive Cleaners. I downloaded it, but haven't
installed it yet.
Thanks for the tip. :o)

No Wes I'm not the John Barnett your refer to. It appears he is a programmer
wheras i'm an IT Journalist. To be honest there are more John Barnett around
than i first anticipated:-)
Incidentally, with Wipe Out on the Main Tab it is worth placing a check mar
in the Use Advanced Settings. As i said in my original mail Wipeout will
overwrite free space. Depending upon your hard drive size and available free
space this can take many hours. The reason for this is because it is set by
default to overwrite 16 times. I have altered mine to overwrite 2 times in
order to speed up the process. Well i have nothing to hide, so i'm not
worried. Stangely a tip i always adhere to is "if you don't want anyone else
to see your information don't store it on your pc.'

John;
Thanks for the reply. I was curious and thought it a bit of a coincidence
to notice the name in a couple different places on the same day. :o) I have
found two other Wesley Vogel's in the US. I thought that I was the only one.
:-(
I had Kevin Solway's CleanDisk Security, that could take forever also.
