Hi MB
Jan
I'm a bit confused about this part of your email:
I can understand, so for now, forget that part. Try the following and see
if it provides more information.
Restore Internet Explorer Default Search Settings
http://www.internet-explorer-tutorials.com/internet-explorer-reset.html
also.....
Resets all the IE functions - for windows, hangups,
Start> Run> Paste this
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
and then do the same with each one of the following..
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
or.....open an ms-dos prompt window and type the following hitting
enter
after each line.
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
It works for Windows XP pro and IE6.
If still not joy, then continue with the rest of the suggestions I
provided
in my previous reply.
Hope this helps

Cannot search from IE6 Address Bar
Check the Registry to see if this file is there. Sometime during
removal
of
hijackers or spyware files in the Registry can get corrupted or removed
as
well. If not, try adding this line to this part of the registry.
(watch for the wrap, it should be all on one line)
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\URLSearchHooks]"{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}"=""
First of all, what file are you talking about? What file is missing?
Secondly I found the registry item. The first line under name says
Default.
The under TYPE it says Reg_SZ and under Data it says (value not set).
The line below this has your item but there is no "=" after the }. Should
I
be putting that in?
I'll wait for your response and then proceed (before looking at your
other
suggestions).

Hi Mel
Jan, et. al:
I think I mispoke. If I click on the History BUTTON, that actually
does
work
fine.
I am referring to the arrow to the right of the address spot where you
type
in the URL. It used to be when I'd click on that I would get a drop
down
menu that would list recently visited sites. That no longer
happens.
Any advice (or does the advice below still apply to that).
I *think* what you are talking about is the Address or Search bar.
That
is
a bit different. It could be due to a corrupted Search or Address
function.
Try the following and see if that helps:
Make sure Auto-Complete is Enabled:
Tools>Internet Options>Content tab>click Autocomplete
Uncheck all the boxes for features you don't want to use
Click Apply
Then OK

Restore default Search functions:
In order to restore you default Search functions, download and run the

THe History Folder can be corrupted:
Free History Eraser from

the
History folder and a new one will be created when you restart.
Or the History folder can be deleted manually:
See: How To Delete the Internet Explorer Temporary Internet Files:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
You might need to delete the damaged History folder- a new one will be
created on restart.

Hi MB
Try the following and see if it helps:
Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
and......
Run regedit and navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER|Software|Microsoft|Internet Explorer|Main
and insure that Save_Session_History_On_Exit is marked YES and
not
NO.
(I
just checked mine, and it is set to NO by default).
Also try slipping down to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER|Software|Microsoft|Internet Explorer|TypedURLs
or.............
It could be that the History folder has become damaged or corrupted,
try
deleting the folder, then reboot and a new one will be created.
As you do not mention the version of Windows you are using, I
will
have
to
guess on this:
History folder corrupted -
For W98 (W98se) proceed as follows as per Sandi's site:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_8.htm#deltree
1) Start>Shutdown>Re-start in MS-DOS mode
2) Wait for Mouse to be recognized, and for the system to stabilize.
3) At the prompt of C:\> type the words: "Deltree History"
(Note:
there
is
a space between the two. Do not use any " quotation marks)
5) press enter
6) A confirmation request appears (Y/N)
7) Type: "Y" and press enter (no quotation marks)
8) Another prompt will appear (Y/N)
9) Type: "Y" and press enter.
10) Hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to close out of the DOS session and to re-boot
in
normal mode.
The same process may be followed for your Temporary Internet
Files
as
well.
This will create a new Index.dat file free of corruption and
sized
at
32
KB.
In that case the command line to use will be "Deltree Tempor~1"
Proceed slowly and carefully, noting that each command and
instruction
is
followed.
IF you've been using any other method of cleaning files and stuff
out
of
the Content.IE5 folder other than the use of IE Options>delete
files>delete
all off-line content> OK>OK out. Stop doing that. The aforementioned
process of using IE Options is the only safe and prescribed way
of
cleaning. (other than the DOS Deltree command)
or..................
To create a new History Folder
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_8.htm#deltree
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm (XP systems)
For XP follow the instructions at Mike Burgess' site as the process
and
paths differ from W98:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
To delete the History folder and index.dat (XP)
Log on as Administrator and delete the desired <username> folder and
reboot.
(or log on as another user that has Administrator privileges)
Example: "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\HISTORY"
You may also have to go to Safe Mode to delete files/folders.

My history folder is supposed to keep the URLs for 20 days.
But recently I've noticed that when I click I don't get any
history.
