Hi group,

I'm opening sites, with the intention to re-open them later offline using
the history button, however when I come to review them the images are greyed
out and unavailable.

I have my history set to 35 days and my disk space set to 700+mb yet the
files are self deleting, even images that were opened this evening are gone.

Please could anyone advise me what is happening here.

Thanks in advance to all those that take the time to reply.

Hi,
That's a huge cache- 700MB. I think you're trying to save too much for too
long. Try clearing the cache and setting it to, at most, 200 MB. Also, I
would try a History setting of 20-25 days. I would save individual webpages
via IE> File> Save as.

Or- a different way of saving pages/sites...
WebReaper (freeware) from http://www.webreaper.net/download.html
or
HTTRACK (WinHTTrack) http://www.httrack.com/index.php

Or the History folder may be damaged/corrupted.
Try deleting the History folder for the affected user account. A new one
will be create on restart.

The procedure [Windows XP]
Login as another user with administrator privileges, or from the machine's
default administrator account (startup in safe mode.) Make sure that you can
see hidden and system files (Folder Options> View) then delete the affected
History folder from Windows Explorer. It will be at [C:\Documents and
Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\History] Restart the computer.

Hope this helps,

Most likely the site's page or its components are non-cacheable.
You would have to try using File, Save As... to circumvent that.
Tip: File, Send, Page by E-mail and then saving that as an .mht file
also sometimes works when the normal method fails. YMMV.

Post a specific example (e.g. a public link) which you think
you should be able to view offline if you're still having trouble.

Thanks in advance to all those that take the time to reply.

Thanks guys for the suggestions,
Don, I have tried the deleting of the History folder and that seems to have
worked, the next couple of days will tell.
Thanks again for the support.

David.
