I emptied my History file, but one previously viewed website still shows up when I search my History file and/or begin typing a new website address in the address bar. I have been unable to delete it. Has anyone else run into this? Is there any way to delete this previously viewed website? Thanks!

run spybot and ad-aware also.....

I realize that no one will believe this, but it is not a porn site. It's actually an NBC site. I just hate when things don't work the way they're supposed to. I have tried some of the suggested fixes with no success. The wierdest thing is that when I go into the History file it shows empty. For some reason it is showing up as a result of Auto Complete, but deleting that file has not worked either. Are their any other suggestions? Thank you all for your help.

Awesome reply, anon! I had never scratched the surface of
the Advanced panel on the Find dialog. Fortunately for me
I either don't have Mitch's problem or haven't noticed it,
because unfortunately for me I'm on Win98 and I don't have
the options you describe under Advanced. Mine has a whole
lot of things to select from but the only modifying
criteria are min and max "size" fields, no matter whether
you choose Registration Entries, Shortcuts, or Acrobat
Files from the menu.

Getting off-thread here, can you tell me where all those
things in that drop-down Advanced menu come from, that is,
where is it that this particular set of thingies is stored
that makes them special and different from all the other
permutations of thingies? It sure is an eclectic mix.

Cheers,
Ken

Mitch,
You probably have a corrupted History folder or index.dat file.

Delete the damaged History folder- a new one will be created on restart.
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder in Windows 9x,2K, XP.

Regards,
Don

Thank you for the great suggestions, but nothing seems to have worked. I love it when I have problems that no one else ever has....

There was another person in this forum with this
problem. Have you tried going to TOOL>INTERNET
OPTIONS>CONTENT? If not, click on Auto Complete. You
can click on clear forms and it should erase previous
history. I would also uncheck the "Web Addresses" box
under the "Use Auto Complete for:" heading. Hope this
helps.

Mitch,
Are you sure that you deleted the History folder? If using XP or 2K, did you
delete the affected History folder? Which OS?
