I have been working for several hours using the Adaware
scan and quarantine to remove spyware that put extra
toolbars on my IE page. My scans come up empty (after 4
runs), but one unwanted search toolbar is left. When I
rightclick on the toolbar area, I can see it-- the name
is gone (it was something like "ukuuthz...")but there a
check alonside a blank space on the list. Anyone know
how I could get at that list of toolbar options and get
rid of it?

Thanks! Sarah

Try another spyware scanner, like Spybot Search and Destroy. Sometimes one
spyware catcher will catch something that another doesn't - yet.

If you previously tried to remove this bugger on your own, you might have
ripped out enough of it so that it is no longer detectable by a spyware
scanner. Never try try to eradicate these things on your own - the punks who
write these things have already thought of all the things you will try. If
nothing else works, you can try reinstalling Internet Explorer:

hi. try 'crazy browser', an explorer browser that has alot
of options. i haven't had any problems yet with it, as it
has a popup stopper and more.

Remove Toolbars from Internet Explorer

To remove entries manually go to:
Start>Run>Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

Clear Entries from Tools:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions

Select each subkey and look at its MenuText value in the right-hand pane.
When you locate the menu item, delete the entire subkey.

Note you can save the registry key first by:
On the File menu, click Export.
In the File name box, type SaveKey, and then click Save.
Or create a system restore point prior to editing.
Note: If the registry key is not there, you can simply create one by going
edit > new.

Sarah,

Get ToolbarCop:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/utils/ToolbarCop.exe

ToolbarCop removes the Toolbars, Toolbar buttons and unwanted
menu-extensions from Internet Explorer. It does not remove the spyware from
the system entirely. It is advisable to run Ad-Aware scan
(www.lavasoftusa.com), if the toolbar entries are not removed.
