HijackThis version 1.98 is now available. Inasmuch as it isn't the most
intuitive GUI known to man as far as checking for updates goes:

Open HijackThis>config button>Misc tools button>check for update on-line. It
will phone home and then offer to download latest version. It will not unzip
if you are placing it in the same directory as the one in which it resides.
However and wherever you decide to temporarily install it to, make sure that
it finally ends up installed to the proper directory in your Hard Drive, and
*not* some temporary folder.

You're welcome. This update was a long time in the making, as per info from
Merijns' site. But it has probably never found a *single thing* to do on
your PC PCR! <vbs>

You are correct. I chickened out on the update, though. It's blurb
sounds like it is about to get busier than before, creating folders &
such. I don't think it was creating folders before, none that I have
spotted. Also, is it beginning to use "definitions"? How did it go for
you?

Didn't create any new folders. In fact, it has never even made one folder
since I've had it onboard. As you've said, none that were obvious or
noticeable. Now, there is *one* thing which appears new: There is a "faster
than the eye can see" something in deep dark purplish-blue which says
"....... trusted zones...". This might have to do with the most recent
changes detected since a prior scan (?). I'm not sure yet. But, as you know,
I was forced to screw around with the trusted site zones relatively
recently, and am still in that process, like adding Henri's, Sandi's, Mike
Burgess, and other (reputable) sites where they use scripting to make their
page features work.

I've not noticed any new or different "definitions" as yet, but I haven't
dissected the entire program, or put it under the loupe as yet either.

It "installed" (Well !.......excuuuuuuuse me!) (downloaded and unzipped,
extracted,... whatever) the program as quickly as it ever did (same as
CWShredder f'rinstance) and opens as quickly as per usual. That's the end of
my preliminary report for the moment. I'll keep you abreast of whatever
"new" which may crop up.

While I was renaming the old one, I accidentally deleted it. Therefore,
I went ahead & installed the new. It is an "install", but only of a
single executable. I don't see that any folder was created, except the
one I myself made... "C:\Program Files\HijackThis". I guess that blurb
was talking about a "Backup" folder, likely to hold removed items (for
"undo"). But I've never removed anything with it. I don't see that it
came up with anything new.

| Now, there is *one* thing which appears new: There is a "faster

Let me run it again... Geez!... I don't know if it flashed by, but it
hasn't ended up in...

Oops! <---hehe How'd you do that? Well, you just told me how... mistakes
happen. I do wish one could alter the positions of those two R-click context
menu items; they are awfully close to each other (can't get any closer) and
I use rename a lot. So what happened? Did you click "yes"? D'oh!

We'll, if you don't like the new, I can send you a .zip file of the previous
version as I keep them saved in another location. Let me know. Also, I
should really re-locate Hijack This (and many others that were .zipped
files) to C:\Program Files. I created a directory long ago which I named
C:\Unzipped (yeah... I know...D'oh)
I've run a scan three times and saved two log files. I think that
"blue-blurb" (on the very top of the GUI) represents these three which
re-introduced just yesterday or so:

Yea, too bad about Radner. Oops, now I've noticed that HijackThis report

about. Can NetZero have wiped them, when it stealth-installed it's own
search stuff...?...

Well, when I saw I had both the zipped & unzipped v1.97.7, I wanted to
delete the zipped one but got the other. So, impulsively, I just
installed v.1.98.0. So, now I've got two zipped & one unzipped. Some
day, I'll go back & delete both of the zipped ones. But they have been
freshly renamed to include version numbers. (Don't forget I've also got
my clone.)

| C:\Unzipped (yeah... I know...D'oh)

I like to keep them in Program Files. But I do have an empty
"C:\Unzipped" for some forgotten reason.

| I've run a scan three times and saved two log files. I think that
| "blue-blurb" (on the very top of the GUI) represents these three which
| re-introduced just yesterday or so:
| O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.colba.net
| O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.mvps.org
| O15 - Trusted Zone: http://inetexplorer.mvps.org

Mine didn't go as high as O15. I'm sure... well, no... I have no Trusted
Sites at "Internet Options, Security tab, Trusted Zone".

Mae -

Heh! My pleasure to have "given" you and your young one a smile. It is fun,
and brings back some fond memories. ;-) And Second City...hehehe... some
great laffs were had from that too. <s>
