Well, you have been qiuite motivating. <g> For myself, I updated t
MSI-925X Neo motherboards that seem to offer a harder target fo
internet STDs and since I was at it, Raptor drives (noise yes, but
five year warrenty) and I'm back in business, mostly. Of course, tha
doesn't solve the original problem for those who can't afford to pu
out a fire by suffocating it with money.

I'm beginning to wonder if this problem (more threads on the net ever
day, still no answers) isn't another "feature" brought to us by M$ i
the "upgrade" of XP by SP2.
Could it be possible that a less than perfect install of SP2 provides
barrier of nickel steel armor for the front door, then mud and stick
for the walls? In effect looking really snappy, but stopping nothin
from coming in behind the security? That would sure explain what I'
seeing from people all over the country asking the same questions
am.

Symantics? Useless tech support in really bad English. I'm learnin
more about XP/NT every day, and the more I learn, the less I understan
how it ever worked as well as it has, for this long.
I'm hoping that over Christmas/New Years, I can learn enough to deplo
the Red Hat Linux I paid less for, than one of the fleet of utilitie
that are a requirement to keep XP floating

YEA BABY, I JUST PURCHASED LINUX FEDORA 9.0
DOWN WITH MICRO$OFT AND THERE SILLY CRAP.
IMAGINE A CAR BUILT TO M$ STANDARDS?

What u needed to do...was a low level format..with something like (wha
i use on ALL h/d's laptop h/d's incleuded is) WDClear.

Its very hard to find now adays but i'm sure you can find a lowleve
format tool somehow.

It writes all zero's to the drive..or 1's..some low level format tool
like the older WDClear will even let you write hexidecimal charaters.

Anyway when u format a drive or even remove the partitions and make ne
ones and then format the drive
ALL THE WONDOWS AND APPLICATIONS DATA IS STILL ON THE DRIVE
ALL MAKEING NEW PARTIONS AND FORMATTING DOES IS: mARK THE BEGININING
AND END OF THE FILES/FOLDERS / SECTORS AS BEING EMPTY
ALL THE DATA IS STILL IN THE "MARKED EMPTY" FILES/FOLDERS/SECTORS

re-partioning and re-formating will do nothing to really remov
anything from your h/d

want a like new from the factory drive?
LOW LEVEL FORMAT IT!

don't listen to ppl that tell u it will ruin your h/d...i been in thi
industry for almost 20 years...since its inception..i have a degree i
I.T specializing in C.N.S and my own business

www.fixedrightfirsttime.com

hehehe
you be amazed at how "new" and fast yer PC will be after a low leve
format and windows re-installation.

Gots ta blaze...late

Whoops

Didn't see yer post about low-level format.
If that didn't fix it its DEFITNATLY a hardware problem.
Is there h/d firmware virus's n malware/adware/spyware stuff maybe?

If not that, the list is very small as to what i can be that is
wrong.

I know this post is 6 or 7 months late but i post it for people like me
that still run across it like i did.

(snip amazingly insane troll post with dangerous suggestions)

We have no idea to whom you are talking since you quoted nothing, but
let's hope you're just a troll or a bot. If you are an actual human
being, you've got your dosages mixed up.

imposta ayarla felrak
translates to
indirect adjust to hack

imposta = indirect
ayarla = adjust
felrak = to dabble, to dab, and mroe recently slang for to hack.

sadly I also have this registry entry, and dont know why how or what to do about it

FWIW: imposta: Italian, "to set up" / ayarla: Turkish, "adjust" /
felrak: Hungarian, "set up"

So "imposta" immediately looks like gangsta imposter to us, but maybe
not. This doesn't get us much closer to finding out what the hell this
thing really is, but I don't think it is the root of all evil as per the
OP.

What bugs me is that a potentially authoritative post on the topic is
no longer available, and all other search results are even less
informative than this thread. One exhaustive list of registry entries
I stumbled upon, that appears to be from a normal XP install, lists the
WOW key with all particulars, suggesting that it's a part of Windows,
and everybody has it. Then we have the issue of why some joker at MS
used four languages to initiate the mysterious "eviewset," about which
apparently no information exists at all.

If I wasn't so annoyed and determined to find out WTF this thing is,
I'd be making spooky noises and waving my fingers around.

Does anyone have an answer to what the entry within
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\WOW\SetupPrograms is doing with the values
setup
install
inst
imposta
ayarla
felrak
eviewset
? Is this normal and what exactly are these values' functions?

Yes.

I think Mark V hits the nail on it's head pretty good in this post:

Thank you for the reply although I don't seem to be able to get to the link.
Do I need to join a group just to read that? I get three green squares and
"Page Cannot Be Found" message. I tried several times to no avail.

Hi,

That link is open to everybody (Google Groups) and works fine for me.

Anyway, here is it's content:

whilst browsing the registry i noticed the following;-
setuppro reg-multi...sz setup install imposta ayarla
felrak eviewset
it sounds very dubious should it be there \what is it

Please post entire path in the future.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WOW
\SetupPrograms\SetupProgramNames\
MULTI_SZ setup install inst imposta ayarla felrak eviewset

WOW is for 16-bit programs. This entry appears here as a default
(Win2K, SP2). It _appears_ to me to be:
1 of no concern
2 used to identify known "Setup" 16-bit programs (and probably take
special action if they are run).

Thank you for the extra care. For some reason I can now visit your original
link. Prolly a temporary server outtage...I am curious why it is necessary to
put the reference text from the previous communique? It seem more logical and
easier to read if the thread simply continues rather than rehashes each one
in duplicate.

Yes, most likely...

the previous communique? It seem more logical and easier to read

duplicate.

Some reasons (1st one not very evident for you because you access
these posts using Microsoft's special written Web interface to the
newsgroups, and I am not):

1)
Many read these posting using a newsreader that is configured to hide
postings that have been read previously, or the previous posts in the
thread have been purged from the newsserver because they are more than
x days old (x determined by the news server administrator).

2)
Easier to see the response in context, and also reduce the need to
look up previous posts if you have not just read them.
