I opened an email from what I thought was my ISP and got the friggin
Hijack/Adware/Auroa Trojan. Now, I can't open msconfig or regedit, nor can
I delete some of the files that I've determined were placed on my hard
drive. Forget about all the popups, what is more fun is that it also
automatically uninstalled my Norton AV program. I called Symantec and they
want $40 for the removal tool which pisses me off as I pay them $30 a year
to keep my definitions up to date (which I always do) and they did not catch
this in the email. I've removed some files manually but I am not able to
delete some of the corrupted files (seeve.exe).
I've since determined that it was obviously a fake email and shame on me for
opening it but is there another removal tool available to clean out this
trojan? I'll try HijackThis tonight (from a previous post) and I've already
run Spybot and Adaware numerous times but can't get rid of all of the
corrupted files which in my case is about 20. People who send out these
viruses should be euthanized. People like me should know better.
Thanks,
Rob
