Highlighting text

I read a thread concerning highlighting text in PowerPoint, the solution of
which was to draw a rectangle around the text. My excuse for not
understanding how to do this is that I'm relatively new to doing
presentations and don't understand which tools to use to draw the rectangle.
Could you please help me understand?

Thanks so much.

The rectangle tool is located in your Drawing Tool bar - typically located at
the bottom of your work space. If you hover over any of the tools, a
description will pop up.

Click on the rectangle tool. Then click and drag to draw the rectangle over
your text. Eliminate the borders using the Line Color tool also found in the
Drawing Tool Bar. Choose No Line.

Click on the Fill Color icon drop down arrow. If the prefered highlighter
color is not available here, select More Fill Colors. Choose from either
standard or custom colors. Set transparency level here also.

Thanks, Sandy! Everything came out fine with the exception of one little
problem. Every attempt at setting the transparency produced text that looked
faded. Is this normal, or is it possible to somehow get the rectangle to
appear behind the text so that the text looks darker.

I appreciate so very much your help.

Island Girl -

This is normal because you are actually covering the text. I find that using
a bright yellow at 75% is the best balance.

But I just thought of something. If you are actually creating the text in
PowerPoint (vs. importing an image of text -- which was my first assumption)
you can draw the rectangle, use a solid, high contrasting color to fill the
rectangle (solid like bright yellow if your text is black- no screen back),
then send the rectangle to the back of the text. To send to back, right click
on the rectangle. Choose Order. Choose Send To Back.

Hope this helps.
