Highlighting problems

Landmaam

In Excel, Word and Smart Draw Windows XP will arbitrarily
start highlighting blocks of text instead of just the
word or item you want. You cannot escape out. I have to
get out of all progarams and re-start computer. What is
going on.
 
Did you by any chance, click the wheel on the mouse?
Just a thought.
