I am looking for recommendations on a desktop size high speed scanner
to use with our document storage system. This is my first go around
with these types of scanners and with the current prices I want to make
sure we get one that is the right fit.

We currently are scanning on any one of three multi function printer
stations but I am looking for a dedicated scanner. Users scanning at
the MF printers are causing a bottleneck. The multi function printers
are scanning at about 45 pages per minute at 300 dpi and that seems to
be a satisfactory rate so a scanner that can scan 30 to 50 pages per
minute at 300 dpi black and white should be satisfactory.

We need to be able to easily switch from scanning something as small as
a check and quickly move up to 11" x 17". The duty cycle would be no
more than 1000 pages per day per scanner.

I just need the scanner to scan everything to a single folder. The doc
recognition software (Kofax) will handle the rest. I don't want the
users to have to open any software to acquire documents or select a
location to store the documents. The best scenario would be that the
users just need to feed documents into the input tray and the scanner
fires up and knows where to put the scans. The worst scenario would be
that the users would need to select a destination from a preprogrammed
button on the scanner or activate the scanner with a hot key on the
keyboard. The latter would require some kind of SDK unless the hotkey
concept was inherent of the accompanying software.

I don't know if such a machine exists but your recommendations are
appreciated.

Maybe check out Kodak's Document Imaging.

They claim their scanners will scan up to 34" documents.

Thanks for the pointer, even though I was told that the i1200 won't be
ready to ship until the end of August but I am getting pricing anyway.

Thanks again, GaryT
