I read through the instructions on how to use the High Security Encryption
Pack. But there one thing that I am having a hard time comprehending. When
I apply the encryption, can I get away with applying it to the top level
directory, or do I have to apply it to every file and subdirectory?

Exactly what do you mean on how to use High Security Encryption Pack? Do you
mean EFS for file encryption maybe? If you encrypt a folder with EFS then
all the files you place in the folder will become encrypted. If you do not
want that to happen you can encrypt individual files instead or design your
folder structure so that only particular dedicated folders are encrypted
that possibly have no child folders. For instance you would not want to
encrypt your whole user profile folder but it might be worthwhile to encrypt
your my documents folder. Be very careful with EFS and be sure to read the
best practices KB article below including on how to backup your EFS private
keys for user and Recovery Agent. --- Steve
