OK i am really starting to get annoyed with this damn pc.

For the past couple of weeks it has been cripled by
something.I have scoured the net for a fix to stop the
windows explorer cpu from running at 70/80% when idle.

i have a firewall, norton AV and pop up stopper. Have
updated definitions, scanned for viruses, used spybot to
clear, repaired windows via the XP cd, reinstalled system
files, updated security certificates for Norton and
verisign, and made sure windows updates are current. I
have done all this after the problem started, to no avail.

SURELY there is someone who knows what is going on, i
have seen a couple of people with similair probs but with
no answer.

Please please please can someone guide me through a fix
to ensure a solution is found.

Im not stupid with computers, but i cannot explain why
explorer.exe has suddenly shot up and nabbed most my cpu
power, i havent installed anything that would do this and
my system restores only go back to the beginning of 2004 -
which is not early enough.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP. THERE MUST BE SOMEONE.

thanks

Craig

Got on administrative tools then event viewer and found annonymous logon on viewer. Double clicked and found this NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON. Look familiar? I bet nt authority is the blaster virus and this is probably a variant. Now to figure out how to kill it. It evidently communicates when I get on internet. Maybe getting instructions, who knows?

ok so i havenot solved the problem but i have found a way
around it.

If yougo into task manager and end explorer.exe then go
to file and run, and run explorer.exe it seems to run at
the normal level without hogging all the cpu.

all i need now is someone who can tell me why this is
happening and how i can replace/fix explorer.exe.

has a look at that pest website which didnt come up with
anything, just more adware and spyware. surely this musnt
be the prob or what i just did wouldnt have worked.

answers please....

thanks

Craig,

Unfortunately, I am not much help, but I do have the same
exact problem. I was wondering if you heard from anyone
yet about a fix. You list a lot of steps below that did
nothing and I went through all of those steps myself. My
computer is from ABS and it is only a month old. I
disocvered this problem because it would not open a
directer movie .exe file stating I needed 3MB of free
virtual memory. The file worked on my father's computer.
Him and I are still researching the problem and if we
find out anything we will let you know.
