upgraded from OL XP to 2003
now wheever i access email to send or receive or to set a reminder, the cpu
cycles jump to 100% and remain there UNTIL Outlook is closed. Its like
something with email or reminders triggers a reaction with the system, which
is solvable only by closing outlook

any suggestions ?

thanks Sue, but Minimizing Outlook does NOT reduce the CPU cycle, it
remains at or near 100%. Only Closing Outlook does the trick. What else
may I consider?

I wondered if i should just create a new profile and move all of my contents
over, but im not sure How to effectively do that and retain all of my links
etc?

Yes, I would try a new profile. You can set it to use your existing PST
file.
