I recently had some repairs done to my PC (Win XP Home,
AMD 7 1500+, 256 Mb RAM, temporary S3 PCI Graphics card,
Sound Blaster, Kinetiz 7E Motherboard, USB Wireless Cable
modem).
There were hardware faults (a faulty Graphics card and a
faulty NIC card) which made the PC work very erratically.
Now all the major errors I had seem to be gone, only,
after a bit of use, the PC shows me between 94 and 100%
CPU usage and starts acting very sluggishly.
I have ordered an AGP Geforce graphics card, but for the
time being there is the PCI one in there. Could this have
something to do with the problem ?
Or is it some or other setting in my Pagefile or
Swapfile that should be changed ?
By the waythe PC is also serving as Gateway on a 3 PC
network and is connected to a USB Cable Modem.
Any help will be gratefully accepted.

Thanks in advance.

What processes are using the highest percentage of the CPU?

What processes are using the highest percentage of the CPU?
At the moment (after running some anti spyware software)
the "System Idle Process" (up to 97%).
Running Ad-aware has improved things but not 100%, The
Win Home XP Splash screen is also quite slow, the green
bar moves slowly and sometimes stops for a while, and
sometimes my mouse pointer goes a bit jerky as well. So,
something is still slowing down the system.
BTW. Thanks for your reply.

System Idle is the amount that's not being used, so if that's at 97%, you're
only using 3%. So you're going to need to look elsewhere for clues.

If ad-aware did you some good, try running spybot search & destroy as well.
They're both good programs, but they each tend to find different pests. And
keep running both until they come up clean.
