:( My pc has developed a high cpu usage problem, I have scanned for
spyware trojans and everything i can think off, no joy. The only time
it drops is when i take the cable modem offline and sometimes when I
reboot, can anyone help with this as all the other things I have
tried have so far failed......................Ronnie

Ok, so your CPU usage is high. That would imply that you have looked
at some sort of monitoring program, such as the Windows Task Manager.

Did you not look to see *what* process was using all of your CPU time?

Which spyware scanners have you used? Which OS are you using? Windows
98SE System Monitor is notorious for reporting spurious high CPU usage,
especially with more recent hardware. Have you run Taskinfo,
http://www.iarsn.com/downloads, to see which task is the culprit? Have you
installed MSN Messenger, which runs a process called LOADQM, which gobbles
CPU time? There's loads of malware out there which is not really
classified by most spyware progs as such - it's just bad software. You
need to narrow down the possibilities.

I d/l that software from Tucows and it has found that 2 processes are
using a lot of cpu, they are Interupts time placeholder and dpc time
placeholder but I dont know how to shut them down, any
ideas...............Ronnie

Yes I looked at the task manager but the only program using any amount
of cpu was System idle process, I also followed the link for Taskinfo
2003 but the links dead.......................Ronnie

You mean http://www.iarsn.com/download.html didn't work? Works for me.

I'm getting something similar on blueyonder, whenever I upload using
either flashfxp or if someone downloads from me using bpftp server my
cpu usage hits 99%, it shows stupid transfer rates of 1800k/sec also.

I've only just reformatted and it still happens, the reformat wasn't
for this reason just in case you are wondering.

I've got a Motorola SB4200 surfboard cable modem plugged directly into
a Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC. I also have the 4mbit
connection.

Any ideas??

Nick.
