Hello all,
Getting damn frustrated with a problem on a Windows 2000 Professional
Server. The deal is this: when Task Manager is accessed, CPU usage is
WAY high. By that, it shows that the CPU usage is all the way to the
top of the graph in Task Manager, BUT...shows little to no CPU usage
after accessing Task Manager to show said graph. I've looked at the
processes, and nothing looks out of place (so far as I can tell).
Been told that it could be a virus (and that it could be "hiding" upon
accessing Task Manager): it has Symantec Professional AV installed
with all latest updates and no viruses were found. Computer is never
used for anything but it's server activities, so I don't think it
could be adware/spyware/malware from Internet surfing. Plus, server
has had all Critical Updates installed (none show up as needed when
connecting to Windows Update). I am baffled here. I don't normally
work on servers, mostly home & small network PCs, so this one has me
thrown for a loop. Any suggestions? I mean, if I could actually SEE
the process in TaskMan to kill, I would. Any way I could log what's
going on with the server to see that task? Thanks for your help.
Whatever other specifics you need me to post in relation to this
problem, let me know.
PS btw, about 15 computers connect to this server. 12 have now been
checked for adware/spyware/malware & viruses. Some of the 12 DID have
lots of garbage on them, but are clean now.
