high cpu usage when scrolling up in FrontPage 2002 on NT

I have company pc with NT4 PC with 356 mg ram and 6 gig
harddrvive with 1 gig swap file and FrontPage 2002.
Whenever I go to the bottom of almost all htm documents
that I editing and then try to scroll up... then the
FrontPG.exe takes 99% of the cpu ( seen in Task
manager)... and the FrontPage is not usable for 30-60
seconds and then it is ok... all is ok until I try to
scroll from the bottom up again.
I had FrontPage 98 before FP2002 and never had this happen
on the same PC and doing the same exact things.
I have been searching for an answer on this... It is as if
FrontPage is trying to interpret the htm code backwards
and it doesnt know what to do... so it thinks...
I dont see any local drive lite activity but since I am on
the network, drive activity (temp files, or backup copies
or whatever) could be happening there.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I have found nothing on the Microsoft FrontPage web site.

MikeC

What Addins are you running in FP?
Also try a cleanup
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
3) Run a scan disc and defrag your hard drive

Thank you for your reply and suggestions.

I dont think there are any add ins with our standard
company install of FrontPage 2002. If you could tell me
how to find out for sure, I would check and let you know.

I have tried all your suggestions. All .tmp files are
gone and all .web files are gone.

The PC disk has been and is checked weekly with check disk
and defragged. I have a large 1 gig swap file too that I
weekly change it's size slightly to make sure it is always
fresh. I have 390mgs of ram. It is an NT Ver 4 OS. It
is a P4 Dell Optiplex Gx150 with 1 gig processor.

It does not matter if any other apps are open or not.

Any time I make a change to a simple (mostly text)
FrontPage 2002 htm document and then try to scroll up...
the cpu usage of FrontPG.exe goes to 99% (seen in Windows
NT Task Manager) for over a minute. The PC becomes almost
unusable and FrontPage is totally not usable.

Any other ideas?
I still believe it is a FrontPage setting somewher and
that FrontPage is having trouble trying to interpolate the
FrontPage code when the cursor goes up instead of down the
htm code.

Your help is appreciated.

Could I get a reply to my question?

How is updating intellipoint software going to help when
the cpu is maxed out (FrontPG.exe at 99%) when the affect
happens when scrolling up with the keybd not with
scrolling up with the mouse.

And what version of Intellipoint is recommended with and
NT PC with version 4.00.1381 running?

This is a real pain when using FrontPage... a large part
of what I do...

This did not happen with FrontPage 98 with the same exact
PC setup.
Thanks
MClark

It could be purely coincidental that the problem started
with the FP upgrade, and could be nothing more
that a corrupt path to a driver file. ( corrupt registry entry )
Since both the keyboard and mouse are "input" devices,
installing / reinstalling the drivers "may" fix it.

Also, simply removing the devices from device manager
and restarting will "refresh" the dive drivers and file paths.

It's also very possible you have a memory leak
problem unrelated to FrontPage
There is some troubleshooting info here:

Sorry. Didn't see your reply. Remember, all of us are here on our own time
voluntarily and there are plenty of other posts besides yours! Sometimes
things get missed. :)

There have been issues with people scrolling using the wheel on their mouse
pegging CPU with earlier versions of IntelliPoint software. Since you're
using the keyboard, it doesn't apply.

Thanks for your comments... but

Why is the only program on the PC that is affected
FrontPage 2002?

Nothing else does this... and I have all the MS suites and
more...

If the drivers were corrupt or a memory leak... surely
something else would take issue or have a problem...

I am convinced it is the version / release of FrontPage
2002... (10.2623.2625)
maybe a patch or upgrade exists for this problem.

Any ideas?

Time out here.

This is not limited to me.

Just because you dont have a solution dont point the
finger back at the messenger.

There are others with the same problem. Do a search on
this database for cpu.

Do the same search on the internet.... there are many
other identical situations.

Please dont insult others by making statements like that...

I am only looking for a workable solution to try... none
received so far.

MClark,

Remember, this is a problem isolated to you! In order for a patch to come
out, there has to be a bug, and a problem that is affecting one person is
not a bug. :)

I think I would try upgrading my video driver.

A CPU spike is not indicative of a memory leak. If you want to know what
really might be doing this, get a hang dump when the problem occurs along
with some Perfmon data so that you can identify the thread that is taking
CPU cycles. You can then use Windbg to analyze what is happening in that
thread.

Search the Microsoft Web site for "Debugging Tools for Windows". Once you
have the dump, you'll need some expertise in examining them. It's not an
easy task.

I gave you the exact information you need to isolate the problem. My point
to you is that this is not a bug in FrontPage.

MClark, you haven't tried one suggestion that's been given to you. You are,
of course, free to disregard our advice, but if you want to resolve the
issue, you won't. The information I gave you has a 100% chance of giving
you the information you need to resolve the problem.

Have you gone to your video driver site and looked for an update or patch
And also installed the latest directx from Windows Update
(as well as all OS, IE and MS Office Service Packs)

Your problem is strongly indicative of a video related problem
- also check for updates for your keyboard driver (from your PC supplier site)
