Is there a way to hide a winxp pro pc on a network? I can see the pc in
network neighborhood but I cant ping it by name or ip address. The PC
is in a satellite office so I cant just run over and check it out. A
new employee is using it and I think he is hiding something, I think he
may be a hacker but need more information before I accuse him of
anything. Any information is appreciated...
Thanks,

-Dave

many possibilities. I will check the firewall first.

In default WinXP firewall stop the Windows respond to the ping of
another machine. Win2000 don't have a Microsoft firewall like WinXP, but
you can add the same feature with alternative like Norton Security software.
If you want the WinXP pc respond to your ping command, you should enable
it by go to the pc & customize his firewall options.

Does the new employee have local admin rights on this computer? If so, take
them away. Users shouldn't have the privileges to modify system/network
settings.
