I'm sure that I've seen this some where before, but can't remember
where. Is there a program that hides Icons in the tray or maybe has one
Icon that will access the others?

Thanks

Eric

If you need to hide the icons from prying eyes, you may wish to consider
BossKey. ;)

BossKey is a simple virtual desktop program. Create hot-keys to switch
between the desktops and have one set of windows/applications on one and a
different set of windows/applications on another and flip between them
instantly with a single keypress. Up to 10 virtual desktops can be defined
and windows can be designated always visible.

Version 2.00
BossKey can now have up to 10 virtual desktops, each with its own associated
hotkey. It still has the ability to toggle between the current and last
desktop with a separate hotkey.
Added the ability to specify any number of windows that should be excluded
from hiding. You enter a partial text string and if that text is contained
in the title bar of any window (case sensitive) it will not be hidden.
Fixed order of taskbar icons being reversed when switching desktops.

which free for commercial?

Try this one very nice, similar to the one in Win XP

Effective Desktop is a set of utilities to extend your Windows desktop
and make it cleaner and easier to use.

With Effective Desktop, you can hide unused tray icons and change the
logo and text of the Start button. You can have small modules like
calendar and clock running in the taskbar. You can also create multiple
virtual desktops.

is there a place that tells me a little more about it, like who made it,
screen shots, etc. I don't like to download stuff that I don't have any
idea about.

by the way I'm using W98SE.

Thanks

In XP ... I CANNOT say for other version of "Widows"

Do you hate all those icons in your active bar ?
Firewall, antivirus, maybe antivirus, popup killer,
Innernet connection ?

You get to play again with the registry, so, having saved it first ...

In the registry ... [I hope it goes away soon], 'drill to'

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE [say]
.... SOFTWARE,
........MICROSOFT,
...........WINDOWS,
................CURRENT Version,
....................Policies,
.......................Explorer

Add a NoTrayItemsDisplay item, DWORD: value 1 [the number]

Violà !

I've used version 9b of this, and I kept getting errors, and having to
restart windows, but I've downloaded a couple of earlier versions as
well and I am going to try them as well.

Thanks

Hi Eric,

yes you can use it with 98se. I use it all of the time. You have the
choice to hide the icons you want to. When I'm on line, I always leave
the connection icon visible and hide all the rest.

You can download and see screenshot here:

The hiding facility in XP is very nice, but the settings often come unstuck
after using the restore function. Is there any program which will prevent
this happening, or make restoration of the settings easier by remembering
the settings?
