Hi.

We are moving from a NetWare to Windows 2003 environment.
In NetWare if a user does not have permissions to a folder
they do not see it. In Windows 2003 it seems users can
see folders they do not have access to. Is there a way to
hide folders users do not have access to?

Thanks!

Not using netbios/My Network Places. You can hide folders using only AD access by
publishing shares and not giving users read access to shares they do not need, but
not using netbios is still not practical for most. --- Steve

Actually, there is a solution, abeit 3rd party...

It's a product called "Cloak" made by ScriptLogic.

Simply put, Cloak provides increased security on NTFS volumes by adding
"Out of sight - out of mind" filtering to the Windows file
system. Once Cloak is installed on your Windows Servers, users will
only see the files and/or folders that they have permission to access.

i.e. it make it just like the NetWare environemtn you are accustomed to.
