I often use format/columns/hide (and unhide) so thought
to put shortcut icon on toolbar. Doesn't seem to exist
in the toolbar library so tried to drag it from the
dropdown menu onto the toolbar - not something I ever
tried before! believe it or not this seems to have the
effect of deleting the function from the dropdown menu
forever! can't get it back 'cos there's no shortcut in
the library. also I've tried every combination of
keybroad strokes to emulate Format/Columns/Hide without
hitting it right. could reinstall Excel I guess but
anyone got a bright idea??

ah yes, been there done that, but the point is that
the 'offending' command doesn't appear in the toolbar
customize command list!!! Have a look - I'd love to be
corrected!

I was under the impression, that you *had* dragged it to the
menu bar, but apparently, you released the mousebutton, before
reaching the bar and poof.... :-)

In that case, you can always bring a built-in toolbar back to its
original state, but *all* customization (for that toolbar) will be removed!

1. Rightclick a toolbar and choose "Customize"
2. Choose the tab "Toolbars" (or similar)
3. Find "Worksheet" in the list and click the *text*.
4. Press "Nullify" (or similar. The second button from the bottom.)
5. Accept nullifying.
