Hidden Network Connections after MLB Replacement

I just replaced a Mainboard in a system. The replacement
MLB is the same chipset and Manufacture. I am still using
the same PCI devices as before, SB sound, SMC NIC and AGP
Video ATI RADEON. My problem is that I was forced to
install all on my drivers that were working before the
death of the MLB. I have all working now except for the
NIC. In "My Network Places" it shows the NIC
as "Connection #2". When attempt to set the Static IP I
get a message that there is already a hidden device that
is using this address. I cannot find the Hidden Connection
nor disable it. How can I get to the card to remove the
Connection? "My Network Places" shows no other
connections. Anybody dealt with this before?

Hello

Try removing the nic card, reboot your pc and then
shut your pc down and install the nic and then boot
back up with the card installed

I tryed that route. I even replaced the NIC with a 3Com,
restarted with the SMC NIC gone. Reinstalled so that both
the SMC and the 3COM were present. It shows both the 3COM
and SMC Connections. The same message appears about the
Hidden connection.

I used "hack" workaround and change the Static IP of the
hidden Connection to DHCP. This allows me use the Static
on the 3COM but, I still would like to know how to remove
the "Hidden Connection".

Sometimes a video cam will create a "Local Area Network Connection 2."
I don't remember the culprit, but I think there is a Microsoft Knowledge
Base article about it. The camera that caused my problem is an Ezonics
EzCam II.
