Hi All,

I am using Windows Xp SP2. From past few days, three settings under
Tools->Folder Options -> View are getting changed everytime I restart my
computer. The settings are 1)Do not show hidden files and folders, 2) Hide
Extensions for Known File Types and 3)Hide protected operating system
files(Recommended).
By default these three should be selected or checked, but everytime I start
my computer i.e., after shutdown, I see these settings getting unchecked or
unselected. Can anybody guide me how to fix these?

Help would be really appreciated.

What has prevented you from updating to SP3?

The reason I ask is that you may very well be infested/infected and need to
clean up your system - and you might as well be completely up to date when
you do. SP3 has been out for quite a while now, after all.

These preferences are probably stored in the system registry under
CurrentUser. There might be something wrong with this file that it
doesn't save changes. Two things I would try to straighten up the
registry are the following:

1) System Restore to a time before this started happening
Start->Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore

2) Try a freeware tool like NTREGOPT to "refresh" your registry files:

HTH,
John
