Running into a peculiar error in FP 2003 with the internal
FrontPage search component and include files.

Normally (in 2000) if underscores are used before a file
or folder name, they are excluded from a FP search.

I have a client who, after much testing, found that
FrontPage search *will* display each include page by
itself. E.g. If she tries to make a page unbrowseable
(_filename), it still shows up in the search results, but
the link results in a "Forbidden error."

She also found the properties dialog in the folder and
unchecked the "files to be browsed" box.

I'm baffled. I suggested she try recalculating hyperlinks
and have yet to hear the results of that. I am unable to
produce similar results because (I imagine), I'm on 2000
still.

Any suggestions?

Hi Rebecca,

The underscore convention is used to tell FP2/3 to not index any files in a
"folder" that begins with the underscore.

Hi Rebecca,

I believe that only works for "folders"
Have her try a _folder and put the files in it

Rebecca,

I always put my include files into the _private folder. By design it's
avoided by the search utility.

If you create your own _folder then it will be hidden automatically by
FrontPage (not user friendly!). The only way to view it is to make sure
you've enabled "Show hidden files and folders" under "Tools | Options... |
Advanced". These instructions are for FP2002, but I believe they're the
same in FP2000.

Good luck!
