hidden folders

Phil

I am trying to access some folders in C:/documentsandsettings/ that
don't show up in windows.explorer.

If I search for specific files I know are there, they show up in a
search faded, so I assume they are hidden.

The various methods of unhiding them in MS help are bogus. One says,
go to control panel>folders>view>advanced and unhide them, but there
is no such advanced button etc in my XP.

In any case, I need to get in to manual delete a file
(e-mail address removed) (or something close to this.

Any ideas on how to make all folders show up in windows explorer?

TIA

Phil

Open Windows Explorer then:

Tools >> Folder Options >> View >> Show Hidden Files & Folders

You also want to uncheck : Hide Extensions of known Files

this should do the trick. I have also Unchecked "Hide Protected
Operating Systems files

And also: Display Contents of Systems folders

Good luck and when you have finished reset to defaults.

Let us know if this worked.

Thanks, but.....

There is no "Show Hidden Files & Folders"

I do have:
Display the contents of system folders - checked
Hide protected operating system files (recommended) - unchecked
Hide Extensions of known file types - unchecked

but, not the show hi9dden files & folders. Weird, right?

Thanks Mario,

I'll try it, but having read the description, it doesn't seem to be
exactly the problem. I am not getting errors that the file is being
used. Its just restricted, like an operating system file. There is
nothing in task manager or process explorer to suggest it is being
used.

That being said... I'll try the proggy!

It is there and you could have missed it. See the two pictures I have
put here:

The second picture is highlighted in red.

Hope this helps.

"Hide protected operating system files (recommended) - unchecked"

I recommend keep this 'Checked'. I think that protects the system files, at
least to a degree.

The 'unlocker' I recommended earlier is great for files and folders that
won't delete.
Been using it for a long time, it's safe.

Strangely.... no

Mine does not have this directory.

I wonder if a virus (I am having trouble, which is why I need to do
this) is preventing me from deleteing it by preventing me from
unhiding it!
