Greets,

Is it possible to create a folder in an OL store that the user cannot see in
folders view? I want to keep a copy of each contact item in a hidden store,
so that I can revert changes to any given item.

I currently keep a representation of each item in XML, but that doesn't help
for custom properties added by users or other apps, plus the number of
obscure/seldom-used properties is extreme, trying to maintain them all would
be impractical. So it seems like a simple item object copy would be an easy
as well as complete solution.

But I don't want to add visible clutter, and I certainly don't want users
messing with the copy...

Related question: is there a way to flag an item read-only, so that the
inspector will not allow it to be altered via UI?

You can create a new folder in a hidden area if you can get access to the
hidden area. For example, Reminders is a hidden folder. If you can get
access to it you can create a hidden subfolder of Reminders. However,
creating a hidden folder in general requires use of Extended MAPI.

You can also access the HiddenMessages collection of any folder using CDO
1.21 or Extended MAPI or Redemption (www.dimastr.com/redemption) and add
hidden items to the folder.
