Hidden files: Explorer2_lite -vs- 2xExplorer

Hi ya-all,

Maybe someone here can help me with this. I used to use 2xExplorer all the
time with Win98SE, but now am running XP Home. So, I downloaded
Explorer2_lite and was surprised to find that it does not show "all" of the
hidden files of ".dat" and ".ini" the way that 2xExplorer did with 98se. It
shows some, but not all. I have checked all of the options that I can find,
have used "show all" and have made sure that visual hidden files filter is
not turned on, and there seems to be no way to remedy this situation that I
can find. Is this a XP -vs- 98se problem, or is it 2x -vs- explorer2?

Perhaps I have missed something?

What is interesting, is that I can view all of them hidden files of ".dat"
and ".ini" in XP Home by adding them to Irfanview 3.85's list of custom
extensions. I don't like to leave it that way, because it becomes a
nuisance to run into those files while viewing directories of animations,
images, etc. (I delete the ".txt". extension from the list for the same
reason).

You should ask your question in the xplorer2 lite forum:

It turns out that in this case (showing "all" files hidden or otherwise)
that the Explorer2-lite version amounts to little more then cripple ware.
One needs to purchase the Exploer2-Pro version in order to have access to
this function. I will try installing the good-old stand-by 2xExplorer
version to see if it still works correctly even though this is XP Home
NTFS -vs- Win98se FAT32.

Thanks,

Hmmm... there's no mention of this here:

Could you give a few examples of hidden files you don't see? I don't
like the idea of xplorer2 doing this...

TIA

On win98SE it behaves like this, don't know about other OS's. When you
enable to show all files in Windows Explorer, xplorer2 doesn't show them.
That was the only annoying thing I found in xplorer2, but annoying enough
to uninstall it.

Thanks. I'd not noticed it. But it is a bit of a nuisance...

I don't believe xplorer² works in this way. It's not linked with Windows
Explorer. You, uh, _do_ have "Show hidden files and folders" checked,
don't you?

Offcourse I had it checked. And to be extra extra sure I installed it
again, saw it was checked by default and guess what:
It shows hidden files....
Totally confused here. No other explanation for what happened other than me
being totally braindead when I struggled with this before.
Anyway, my opinion about this program just changed back to 'fantastic' and
thank you for letting me do an extra extra check, I've got a fine program
back.

Maybe don't get too excited just yet, because it does not show all of the
hidden files and folders on my machine, and this thread confirms that the
pro version is the only one that will truly show all of them.

The pertinent part, from a high-level member:

"The ability to view raw contents of folders (that is, show exactly how it
is organized on disk) is restricted to the Pro version. This will let you
see the content.ie5 folder in stead of its contents when browsing the
'Documents and Settings\%USername%\Local Settings\Temporary internet
files' folder..."
