Hi

A quick question, I have just bought a new Dell comp last
month, and when I tried to connect to the ADSL, I used to
have a problem for not being able to turn off or log off
my windows, and I resorted to the hard way, by pushing
the power button for 8 seconds (which resulted in the
power being cut-off, and the computer turned off).

I later found out that I can turn the comp off using
hibernation. Another altenative is to switch user and
then turn off.

My question is:
- if i use hibernation all the time, will it cause any
damage to the system or any other negative effect at all?
- if i use switch user and turn off, will it affect any
running program (other than losing data)?

BTW, I have scanned for virus, and found nothing.

Thanks a lot for your help.

First I would call Dell, you must have some warranty.
If no help there, then I would troubleshoot my shutdown
problem.Try here...

If you want to save the work you have on your computer
and continue working on it at next startup, use
hibernation mode.If there is nothing to save, just use
standby.Make sure you have your power options set>control
panel>power options.....Good luck.
