Hi

A quick question, I used to have a problem for not being
able to turn off or log off my windows, and I resorted to
the hard way, by pushing the power button for 8 seconds
(which resulted in the power being cut-off, and the
computer turned off).

I later found out that I can turn my comp off using
hibernation. Another altenative is to switch user and
then turn off.

My question is:
- if i use hibernation all the time, will it cause any
damage to the system or any other negative effect at all?
- if i use switch user and turn off, will it affect any
running program (other than losing data)?

Thanks a lot for your help.

You may eventually run low on resources if you run applications that don't
free up all their resources when closing. This isn't as big of a problem as
it was with Windows 95 and 98, but may still exist to some small extent.

I don't want to alarm you, but I had problems with my computer not shutting
down. It would bring up the screen saying it was shutting down and just
hand there. I discovered that this was caused by the W32Blaster worm. The
worm runs a file called mslaugh.exe.

I have already conducted many virus checks, but no sign
of virus or worms.

how do you deal with the low on resources thing? thanks.

All resources are released when the system shuts down, so a system restart
should bring all your system resources back.
