On my previous Vista HP computer, after not using the bubbles screensaver, I
was able to use the hibernate function. On this new computer I cannot get
hibernate to to work. I set it for no screen saver and there are no
different programs running, so why am I not able to get hibernate to work?

I have the power features set for hibernate but when I click the Sleep it
only goes to sleep for a minute or so and then the blue light is back on.

Sleep is different than Hibernation. If you select Sleep mode and the
computer wakes up quickly then something is waking it up. A likely cause is
the network adapter which by default has "allow this device to wake the
computer" enabled. This is true of the mouse as well - if "allow this
device to wake the computer" is enabled the slightest movement of the mouse
will wake the machine.

Regarding Hibernation, are you sure it's enabled? You can determine this
easily by running Disk Cleanup and seeing if the hibernation file is in the
list of items that can be deleted (obviously don't delete it). If it's not
in the list it's not enabled. If it is enabled do you have it assigned to
the sleep key in the advanced power settings?
