I always hibernate instead of shutting of windows. Is that OK because windows
take a long time to rejuvenate otherwise. Am I shortening the life of my HDD
by doing that?

Thanks

Hi,

Nope, nothing wrong with doing that.

No. Hibernate is exactly the same as power-off, except before
powering down it writes a magic "hiberfil.sys" file and wen powering
up it reads that file.

There are years-long debates about powering disks down versus letting
them run, but those don't factor into the question of "power off
versus hibernate" because either way the whole computer is powered
down".

The one thing I would say is that I tend to shut Windows down every
few days just because it seems less unstable that way. But normally I
hibernate, and for exactly the same reason as you.

You've already received the low down on hibernate. Just want to add, if you
are going to add any hardware to your system, perform a normal shutdown
first. Then add the new hardware. Then boot to Windows to make sure the new
hardware is installed correctly. Once you have confirmed the status of the
new device, it's safe to go back to hibernating instead of a full shutdown.
