hibernate function under the stand by button

by some mistake after the trial to stand by my computer
I assume that the shift button might have been pressed on
it and the computer was turned to hibernate function.
What happened is that the desktop screen got twice
smaller and I can not restore the original view. Please
share your thoughts. thank you
