I have been reading about this Hiberfil.sys file in this NG, but I don't
seem to have one on my computer, yet it hibernates fine.

Is this not true when you are using 32-bit file system for Windows XP?
Regards.

It is a hidden/system file. From within Explorer - Tools, Folder Options,
View, Tick "Show hidden files" & Untick "Hide protected operating system
files"

Woody

Done that, it's still not on my machine.
Has it something to do with SATA drive, the Write caching is greyed out in
Devise manger Policies, for this HDD.
Reima.

It is either on your system or you are confusing hibernation with standby.
The system needs the file, equal to memory to write to when it hibernates.

Well, the computer tells me that it is going to Hibernate, showing the bar
with square dots and then it closes down.
Then I get the black screen with a row of white dots, when it wakes up.
So you think this is still "Stand-by"?
In Power Options I have on Stand-by = Never
In "Search" for File Name I have "hiberfil.sys"
Look in Local Hard Drives.
Type of File: All Files and Folders.
Tick in "Search System Folder"
Tick in "Search hidden files and folders"
Tick in "Search subfolder"
And the search comes up empty.
Go figer???

Sounds like you have not enough room for the file to be written. suggest
looking at the free space vs. the memory installed.

I agree with you that you are using hibernation. It is definitely writing
the information from memory somewhere.

29,6GB free space on C: drive, 287kb free physical memory at the moment of
522kb. Only 511MB needed for Hiberfil.sys. And it seems like it is reading
it from somewhere while coming on line, I mean that black screen with the
row of white bars, when windows starts up.
This is a Windows XP Home OEM, running on 32 bit file system.
I forgot why I formatted it to 32 now but it works great.
Just curious about not finding the hibernating file.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the question? Does the system Hibernate and
stay OFF? Or is it coming back on after starting to hibernate? If the
former, open Explorer, and Tools, Folder Options, View, and Uncheck Hide
protected operating system files. And tick Show hidden. Apply and then
go look in the Root of the boot drive.

Bob, thanks for that, <Uncheck Hide protected operating system files.>
I only ticked the Show hidden.
Now we are cooking with gas, it's 523k file.
And there is the "pagefile.sys" as well.
Well my curiosity is now satisfied, will hide them again.
