HI_SPEED USB device plugged into non-hi-speed usb hub

Hi,

"HI_SPEED USB device plugged into non-hi-speed usb hub"

I get this error when I plug in my usb 2.0 external hard
drive. I downloaded the MS SP1 as well as the update
which is supposed to resolve this problem, but still get
the error message. My laptop is a VAIO which I bought in
Feb 2003. I'm sure this hard drive has worked with this
laptop before. It works fine on my desktop. Both desktop
and laptop look like they are using the same driver.
I also have a serial to usb converter. Could this have
screwed up my usb stuff? How do I know if I actually have
usb 2 ports? Thanks you.

Find the documentation that came with the laptop. That will tell you what
you have in the machine for hardware. USB 2.0 was not necessarily a common
hardware item on machines back in February and is not that widespread today.
