I have checked out the article on microsoft about this error message. The
only problem is that there is no advanced tab in the device manager. There
is no way that we can update the computers or hubs (there are at a business)
so I need to be able to turn off the message. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Amber

The problem is that in the device manager there is no advance tab on any of
my devices. So there is no checkbox to turn off usb error messages. I need
to know how to find the advance properties of the usb universal controller.
The computers that are affected by this are running Windows XP Professional,
one has sp2 and one has sp1 and one has no service packs.

Thanks,
amber

I don't have an enhanced host controller but I have an Universal host
controller
-Intel(R) 82801AA USB Universal Host Controller

Thanks

You need to get your business IT people to do it, you need
administrator logon to have the advance tabs.

You may want to review the link, your call..
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310575/en-us

You might also try going to Control Panel, Add Hardware, next, select Yes,
to already connected the hardware, next, scroll down the list and select "Add
a new hardware device", next, select the (advanced) option, next, select
"show all devices", next, scroll down the Manufacturer list to "Intel",
select it, now in the Model list scroll down and see if you find Intel(R)
82801AA SMBus Controller (Intel(R) SMBus 2.0 Driver) if it is there select
it, next, confirm, click next to install, ok then reboot the computer..

I can see the Intel 2.0 driver on my system as an option, yours may very, no
harm to investigate, if you wish to, just select cancel at any time, to exit
the Add Hardware Wiz..

Since we are a small company we don't have an IT department and we have free
access to our computers (the employees are their own IT people). All of our
user accounts are the computers administrator. So this is not the problem
but thanks.

I checked out what you suggested and fall there was were options for graphic
controllers and monitor drivers. So this isn't an option either but thanks,

When posing questions of this sort it's really helpful to potential
responders if they have a clear idea of the precise problem and
software/hardware that's involved. To that end...

1. From your description there are three machines involved here, right? Are
they all OEM machines? The same make & model?

2. Do you know the make & model of the motherboards involved? Are they the
same in each machine?

3. Is there any reason that two of the machines have not been updated to
SP2?

4. Is it your impression that all three machines did not come equipped with
USB 2.0 capability? That they had only USB 1.0 (1.1) capability and have
never been updated for USB 2.0 capability? All three of these machines are
quite old?

5. Has this problem re the "Hi-speed USB device..." message appearing just
recently occurred? Presumably your users have been using USB devices in the
past. What has been their experience?

6. Are you inferring that you're willing to work with USB 1.0 (1.1) rather
than USB 2.0 and that all you're interested in is finding a way to get that
"Hi-speed USB device..." message to disappear?

So please respond to the above if you want to go on and include any other
pertinent details re the problem you're experiencing.

When you click Properties on the Intel(R) 82801AA USB Universal Host
Controller the Advanced tab should appear right beside the General tab.

I know this won't help you with your problem but I did have the same sort of
issue when a tab suddenly went missing from the USB properties because of a
software conflict. Unfortunately I don't know what specific software
installation or update caused the tab to disappear because it wasn't noticed
immediately. I had to resort to System Restore to fix it.

I am not looking for the an extremely technical answer. I am looking only
for someone who has had the problem with having no advance tab on the device
manager and has either been able to resolve this problem or knows how to turn
off the error messages by another mean. As I stated before this is a small
company that has no IT person. The company is not interested in upgrading,
so changing out to USB 2.0 cards is not an option. We all have basic
computer knowledge (such as being able to put in expansion cards, upgrade
memory) but beyond that there is no one here with technical abilities. I
have no idea about the motherboard make or model. Two of the computers are
Dell 2200 and on is a Dell 2400. They are not nor will they ever be
connected to a network nor are they connected to the internet. Thus they
haven't needed to be upgraded to sp2. They have what they came with from
Dell.
Out of eleven computers, all of varying age but all running xp, only one
has the advance tab in the device manager. This is the newest and the only
difference is that it is running xp media center edition.

I am only interested in making the message stop. It pops up all the time
and is extremely annoying.

Does that work?

I back up the files that we needed and did a system restore back a month.
This brought back the advance tab. I don't know of anything that was added
to the computer that would have caused the software conflict but I will
continue to investigate. Thanks for your help. I can now turn off the error
message.

Thanks

No this doe not help because I had no advance tab. RalfG noted in his post
to do a system restore and this gave me the advance tab.
