Hey! Why is Outlook 2002 SO SL-O-O-O-W! (slow) dialup

What can I do to improve the speed of Outlook 2002 on dial-
up? I can literally dictate my message, character-by-
character, in BINARY ("one-zero-zero-one", etc.), in the
time it takes to send a message. Really, I can call
everyone on the distribution, one-by-one, and read the
contents of the email while waiting for the send to
complete.

I am sure that some of this must be due to re-syncing, but
can't I shut that crap off? I am not using my calendar
and all 100 of my folders on the road, and my battery is
sucked dry in the airports while megabytes of handshaking
are going on for even the most trivial operation. This is
madness.

There has to be a better way. Senior executives in the
late 19th century had FASTer ways of getting short
messages out than I do in the 21st century using Outlook. -

This is a long shot, but Try disabling the integration with Instant
Messenger in Tools | Options | Other and see if that speeds things up.

My boss had the same kind of problem. Sounds exactly the
same to me. His turned out to be some kind of Trojan
Horse loaded by something his kids downloaded to his
laptop, which was sending TONS of data back to its home
base whenever he was online. It was one of those spyware
things that Norton and McAfee don't consider "viruses" and
don't check for. Soon as he got rid of it, his OUTLOOK
mail resumed its normal zippy speed.

Try http://allentech.net to check for common spyware
trojans on your laptop; click on "Browser Parasites" on
the left of the screen.

Dick.
