I have been using Windows 98 (the version that came with
my computer) since I bought it, but realized that programs
are no longer designed for it so I purchased a copy of
Windows 2000 Professional. I followed the install
instructions and I understood that some drivers would have
to be replaced. After installation I went to HP's website
and was shocked to find that they don't offer any help or
support to users of Windows 2000 Pro. Am I just reading
this wrong? If not, is there any websites that can help me?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You didn't mention the help you needed. In the case of drivers check the
hardware manufacturer's web site.

Since 98 came with your PC, it's obviously an older model. If I have
interpreted your complaint correctly, It is based on HP not supporting win2k
Pro on your PC.
And --

1. You did not buy Win2k from HP, and did not check the HP web site for the
availibility of Win2Kpro drivers prior to installing it.

2. HP has enough trouble supporting PCs with the windows version(s) they
supply with the PC.
(I have an HP laptop that was returned for service six or seven times during
the warrenty period, with half the returns due to additional problems caused
by the service center.)

3. Drivers can often be obtained from the OEM that supplied various
components of your system to HP.

If you would care to list your specific problems, it might be that someone
on this or the other win2K newsgroups can help solve at least some of them.

Any PC reaches a level of obsolence. It's often a choice of continuing to
use existing software, or updating both hardware and software. I have three
systems based on the 440BX chipset. (One Laptop, two Desktops.) The
desktops were almost "state of the art" when they were built in 1997. Both
originally used overclocked Celerons, and ran beta versions of windows and
office, as well as multiple other ops systems and development systems.
Today, they are slow by current standards, have serious limitations with
games (Video Card drivers) and while well capable of doing what they were
originally intended for, are certainly eclipsed by a just built 2.5Gig
system running Win2k pro.

The Laptop will run Win 2k, and drivers are available from HP. Since it
only has a 600Mhz processor, and a 7.6Gig HD, why bother, at least as long
as it continues to be capable of doing what it was intended to do when I
bought it.
