Is there a way to print both sides of the page in "XP"
such as in "book" with "Microsoft ME". There is no way in
preferences or page layout.

ONCE is sufficient - this isn't Microsoft tech support - not that they'd
assist you anyway. This has nothing to do with either Windows or Microsoft -
it's an HP issue. You see HP have decided not to offer a specific driver for
XP, so you're using the basic driver supplied with the operating system
therefore any 'niceties', such as duplex, will be absent. There is nothing
you can do about it - except turn the page over manually - or purchase Fine
Print from www.fineprint.com.
