Hi, I have a HP Pavilion 304w desktop PC with windows XP
and I would like to reformat drive D;(Maxtor 2F040J0,
FAT32, 5.26GB). This drive is named HP_RECOVERY and
contians a bunch of locked files. I have all the recovery
options i want on CD's and floppy's and want to use this
drive (since its faster than ntfs) for MS flight simulator
04.

Can I do this? Do I need to move some files to C: first?
Will my system still function without it?

Steve,

You may want to start from scratch and completely re-format your hard drive, adding another partition for what you're trying to do.

The partition you're thinking about deleting contains XP and all the other drivers you need to make your system work.

HP does not give you a whole lot of flexibility with installing their version of XP Home.

Also, you cannot, repeat *cannot* download all of the drivers necessary to make your system work properly under XP as you could in the past. HP will not tell you where you can get them aside from using the CD version of the recovery system.

As you can tell, I know a lot about this as I just went through it.

The other option, and probably the best option would be to install a second hard drive which you can format any way you like.

Good luck.
