i purchased my comp in Feb this year and have been
teaching myself how to use it.now I am having problems. I
have been into system restore but now it only lets me go
as far as yesterday I was hoping to go back to all the
original settings I had back in March.
my comp comes up with all sorts of crap when it is first
turned on, when I try to get into folders it tells me off
because a short cut is missing basicly my xp is driving me
totally nuts.

You appear to misunderstand the way System Restor functions. You don't have
enough hard drive for eight months of restore points. Besides, points are
kept for 90 days at most - less if you're running out of space.

You should have received some form of recovery CD with your system - use
that. SR is not intended for this purpose.

You may be asking more from System Restore than it was designed to do.
See HELP & SUPPORT.

For a total back up - system files, programs, personal files - that you
can make to a CD or DVD, check out imaging utilities. Here's one...
