There was a sign on the bottom right hand corner of my
screen this morning for new updates for windows so I
clicked on it. Now I have pop up screens taking over
and now I have no icons on my screen when I start up. What
do I do now?
Go to Control Panel|ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS and see if the update can be
UNinstalled.
Be sure it's the update in question. Jot down its #, then in Windows
Explorer open the WINDOWS directory (folder) and note the first entries
(on the right), colored blue. If the same # shows up in the name of one
of those entries, right-click on it, then click PROPERTIES. Note the
creation date. If it's what you expect, then that likely confirms that
this is the update in question.
Keep the # for reference just in case you decide to reinstall the update
from the Windows Update Catalog. That catalog is accessed via HELP &
SUPPORT|Keep your PC up-to-date. The catalog choice is on the left.
Drill down through the screens, answering the question that each one
poses, and eventually you will be offfered a list of recommended or
critical updates.
