how do i get my microsoft word 97 and microsoft works to reload since they
were original installed on my computer thru gateway??

Do you have a CD of any description? Recovery perhaps?
 
You install them from the CDs. If you don't have, or never received, the
original CDs, you'll have to buy new ones. Microsoft Works Suite 2005, which
includes Word, is available wherever software is sold.

Have you called Gateway? It's likely that they can tell you.
