Hi Robert
Windows Messenger 4.x can be removed from you system by going to Start >
Run, and entering
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Doing this may cause programs which try to use Messenger features (such as
outlook express) to hang briefly. If you use Outlook Express you can stop it
attempting to start Messenger by running this registry edit.

If your using Windows Messenger 5.0 open go to start > run and enter
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Windows Messenger
In this folder you will find a file called messenger.msi, right click on it
and select uninstall. The version number of messenger can be obtained by
opening the main Windows Messenger window and going to Help > About.
Hope this helps you
Mark
