If your old machine was running Windows 9x, then the backup supplied with it
is not compatible with NTBackup supplied with Windows XP (well done
Microsoft! I DON'T think!) You will have to find a windows 9x machine to
restore the backups onto, and then transfer the data a different way.

Barbara, Drag the files to a folder and send them to me. I will try to transfer the
data to something you can use. I still have a 98 machine.

I agree with Gordon's suggestion - you will need to restore the disks
on a W95 or W98 computer (you may need to get it done at a computer
shop). Get the files put on a CD-R data disk.

I really cannot understand MS's thinking on this. Here is MS pushing
everyone on to a single NT based platform, and they don't write a converter
app to convert Win 9x backups to NT backup format! So Joe Public upgrade to
the (now) only available OS, and wham! they can't use the backup files
created in their old OS!
NOT very good thinking, Microsoft!
