When you are "connected to [your] network", and you view
the Folder Option to "Restore previous folder windows at
logon", is it enabled? For more information see the
following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

When You Log On to Windows XP

What happens when you click to clear the "Restore previous
folder windows at logon" option?

Did you check your Startup folder...

%USERPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

.... to see if there was a shortcut to your
"document and settings\username" folder in it? To quickly
access your Startup folder click Start, click Run, type
the following command and click OK:

Shell:Startup

When you write "my network" do you mean your
network of computers that you setup in your own
home or business? Or do you mean a corporate
network that you do not administer? If the latter,
please discuss this issue with your system administrator.

restore previous folder opened previous but also document and settings\username.
nothing in startup checked for hidden.
my network is a small home with ethernet and wifi. more of a toy. busy life spent too long on issue so reverted back to a ghost image. will post when answer pops up! thank you. Tony.
