Well, is Microsoft Word even installed? A lot of systems don't have
Microsoft Office or the individual Office programs - yours could be one of
them. Also, to save money a lot of OEMs install the far less expensive
Microsoft Works, which includes Microsoft Word.

If you're sure that Microsoft Word is installed, go to C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office and see if you can't locate a file called
winword.exe. If so, double click it and see if that doesn't launch it.

You may not have any application software, it depends on
what the manufacturer/dealer wanted to include in the box
(bundle). In years past MS OFFICE Small Business Edition
was often included or even the full versions with all the
Office products. MS WORKS is a basic program integrated
application. There is a version of WORKS SUITE that does
include WORD.
Dell includes Corel WordPerfect as standard configuration,
MS OFFICE is an extra cost upgrade.

You may not have any applications but they can be bought at
college and some high school bookstores at steep discounts
or on-line. You can download a free set of programs called
OPEN OFFICE from www.openoffice.org and there is a program
called ABIWORD
from http://www.abisource.com/

You should always read the product literature before you buy
something to know what you're buying.

The AbiWord link seems to be bad, try
http://sourceforge.net/projects/abiword/

Correction - Works /Suite/ includes Word, vanilla Works does not.
