Where do I go to find the size of a computer that I am
using? I guess I mean hard drive size? And what is a "good
enougth" size of hard drive to buy for a home computer?
Looking at new and used. Don't need a "powerhouse"
computer, just "big" enought to run all MS Office
programs, some phot programs, some games.

Thanks

We have a 6 GB hard drive that seems to allow a multitude
of programs. Look for somewhere in the vicinity of 6 GB
in a used computer. New computers will usually have more
than 6.

If you mean hard drive size, in my Computer or Explorer,
right-click on the drive and choose Properties. It will tell you
there.

But hard drive size isn't the "size of the computer." It's only
one of several measurements that are important. You might also
want to know how much memory you have, how fast the processor is,
etc.

There is no "good enough" that's right for everyone. It depends
on what applications you run (apps like those that do video
editing, for example, create much larger files that word
processing files). And it depends on how many apps you have on
the drive.

You almost can't buy a new drive less than 40GB these days, and I
wouldn't recommend anything less, almost regardless of hat apps
you run. If you're dealing with a used drive, you can get
something smaller, but I still wouldn't recommend less than about
20GB for a Windows XP machine; 10GB or so is about a bare
minimum, and one that you'd likely outgrow quickly.

When it comes to hard drive size, it's not a matter of
"powerhouse" computer" or not, it's a matter of how much room you
have to store the files you want to store. You mention photos;
photographic images aren't as big as video, but they are still
big. If you store many photos, you can eat up hard drive space
quickly.

My recommendations. 40GB HDD,1+GHZ processor,512MB
RAM,64MB video card, and that gets you a good start and
can be purchased used for around 4-5 hundred dollars CDN.
Have fun.
